Biography
GIRARD Mary Jo Mozzillo Derenzo, 79, died Monday evening June 4, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born August 28, 1932 in Hubbard, a daughter of Michael and Dorothy Seiser Mozzillo.
Mrs. Derenzo was a member of St. Patrick Church. She graduated from Hubbard High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Youngstown College where she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and received her Master’s Degree from Westminster College. Mary Jo pursued her career as a first grade teacher for the McDonald School District for 39 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of the NEA, OEA and the Trumbull Retired Teachers Association.
Mary Jo was a member of the Hubbard Progressive Club, serving on the women’s committee for children’s concerts, and was a member of the Hubbard Business Women’s Association having been woman of the year in 2003. She was also a member of the Women’s Golf Association of Hubbard, St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary and the Knitter’s Group at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Her husband, Joseph J. Derenzo, whom she married January 10, 1998, died September 2, 2010.
She leaves a step daughter, Nancy (Ron) Pontius of Poland; a sister, Marilyn (Rich) Girardi of Lake Havasu, AZ; three grandsons, Ronnie and Mike Pontius and Tom (Natalie) Pontius and four great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 9:30 AM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home and 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Timothy O’Neil and Fr. James Walker officiating.
Family and friends may call on Friday 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kelley-Robb-Cummins
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Interment will take place at Holy Rosary Cemetery at a later date.
